MUSEO CAINTA - CAINTA’S FIRST MUSEUM

From what was once the Municipio Building, which transformed into the Liwasang Bayan, the MUSEO CAINTA now rises and was opened to the public last May 23, 2025.
Present during the Grand Inauguration were Mayor Elen Duñgo-Nieto, Vice Governor Jun Rey San Juan, Councilors Ruru Ferriols, Sharon Garcia, Snooky Malicdem and Buboy Sauro. Also present were Department of Tourism Regional Director Marites Castro, Provincial Tourism HEad Ms. Mai Ludovico, and Tourism Heads from various municipalities in Rizal, and historian Michael Delos Reyes.
On this occasion, a book launch was held, the Sumbingtik: Suman, Bibingka, Latik - The Heart of Cainta, written and published by Mayor Elen Duñgo-Nieto herself. The book is an homage to Cainta, the renowned bibingka capital of the Philippines, and to the 10 years of the Sumbingtik Festival.
The second offering of Museo Cainta is an exhibit, “Faith and Imagery: A Century of Processional Images in Cainta”. This exhibit features the various images of centuries-old, and this includes: Sta. Rosa De Lima, Sto. Domingo, Birheng Dolorosa, Hesus Nazareno, Ecce Homo, Our Lady of Light, Hesus sa Panalangin sa Halamanan at Santo Entierro (Amba).
The last feature is an information exhibit entitled “The Sepoys of Cainta”. It features the history of the Sepoys, Indian soldiers who chose to stay in Cainta after the British army pulled out from Manila in 1764. It is an homage to the Sepoys, both from the past and the present, who have contributed to Cainta’s rich culinary and religious culture.
The Museo Cainta is a chance for the younger generation to know more about Cainta’s rich and glorious past, and will soon be a platform for various artists to showcase their art and talent.
